Bulldog 2007 Article 134

(9-5-07)

Only God can beat Newsom(Guardian destroys last credible candidate)

I think I’d rather have an ass-kicking from Mike Tyson than an endorsement from the Guardian. When I opened Brugmann’s rag this morning, the headlines made me believe that I was going to see a ringing endorsement of the last grass-roots candidate with a chance of unseating Gavin Newsom in the mayoral contest which is … 63 days away … instead, it was a ‘page 6’ smear on Ahimsa Sumchai.

Bruce didn’t ask how Gavin was doing in his ongoing rehabilitation from alcoholism and God knows what else. Nope, he concentrated on finding something bad about the Mayor’s last real challenger and spreading it amongst his readers. It was a subterranean level to which even the Chronicle has not stooped.

For the sin of challenging the Downtown power structure that rules San Francisco through the office of mayor, Brugmann’s reporter paraded Dr. Sumchai’s dirty laundry from the past and threatened her earnings from the present and future. And, this guy is our friend?

The tireless Michael Nulty of TAC has put together a venue that includes all of the remaining challengers to Newsom for Room 200. Maybe God will show up.

That’s what it will take.

Friday debates under Gavin’s balcony continue.

This week to be hosted by the Guardian.

Perhaps, Karl Rove?
