Bulldog 2007 Article 118
(8/1/07)
Today at 1pm supervisors Aaron Peskin and Bevan Dufty will push forward 2 deals that sell the City’s future energy and communications franchises to private businesses.
The setting will be the Budget and Finance committee where Peskin has replaced Supervisor Chris Daly in order to insure an orderly transition of the historic record give-away.
Item #1 (occupies first part of calendar)
Extends PG&E grid all the way to Pittsburg (under a shell corporation called Trans Bay LLC) and grants a total of 62 years monopoly with PG&E not even being responsible for maintenance of the cable or its hook-ups.
Most alarmingly, the Peskin franchise agreement extends the PG&E monopoly into alternative energy sources with pollution-free tidal energy just around the corner.
Think about what’s happening here. While we are fighting to take the decades-old PG&E siphons out of our Hetch-Hetchy power, Peskin is handing them the rights to transport alternative energy. They have stolen the past. Peskin wishes to hand them the future.
Final items (Privatizing entire City Wi-Fi system)
Again selling out our future revenue and rights to privacy, Peskin is pushing the rusted tractor Google/Earthlink franchise through yet another Board committee for a phony approval.
Expect all these votes to go down 2-1 unless Daly has lost his mind. Dufty/Peskin. Dufty/Peskin. Dufty/Peskin. The corporate duo.
It is difficult to believe that these two men would sell the future of San Francisco to giant corporations. Wait! Of
course it is reasonable. It is to be expected.
What you can do as a voter
You can get the KY jelly ready and start using it liberally when Budget and Finance begins at 1pm. Because. Because, by the time it ends at 3pm or so, you will have been thoroughly reamed for the next half century.
