Bulldog Week in Review

The Ed Jew case

If the Mayor, in fact, is able to suspend Jew and send his case to the Ethics Commission, he owes it to the public to have the ‘trial’ (cause that’s what it is) televised.      Furthermore, all meetings of the commission should be televised and everyone agrees to that except the corporate interests who hold sway at Ethics and do not want their dirty words and deeds in the public eye.      Top corporate ethics violator, Jim Sutton runs Ethics in much the same way that Joe O’Donoghue ran the DBI Commission.      Cycle after cycle, Sutton uses loopholes or outright lawless tactics to give advantages to Downtown candidates and positions over woefully underfunded Progressive interests.       Then, the Commission attacks the little guy and lets Sutton walk or get off with a slap on the wrist.      It should be noted that Board President, Aaron Peskin promised to put televising the Ethics Commission into this year’s budget.      He lied.

My campaign for Mayor

I’m doing stretching exercises in the paddock area.      On Monday the Elections Department will begin issuing Nominating Petitions to candidates and once we’ve gathered signatures (40, I believe), we can take our money and our petitions back to the people in the basement and wait for verification that we are officially in this race.      Political race veterans such as myself (this is my 4th – yes, I’ve run against Daly, Newsom and Mirkarimi)  …  veterans know that nothing really happens until August 11th when the ticket windows close and the field is set.

Bulldog Odds

Gavin Newsom:    1-4

Bet four bucks to win one and he’d be an even more prohibitive favorite at this point except for two related possibilities.       First, a major lefty player such as Gonzalez could enter.       And, secondly, we all know that Newsom is capable of screwing up so badly that even his billionaire backers can’t save him.      This pony could easily get a wild hair up his ass and run into the crowd at the top of the stretch.

Tony Hall:     10-1

If no major lefties enter by August 11th, these odds automatically come down to 5-1.       Hall’s strengths are consistency and transparency.      Our politics are pretty much polar opposites, but the better you know him, the more you come to respect him.

Dr. Ahimsa Sumchai-Porter:     20-1

Again, as with Hall, if no major lefties enter, her odds come down.     This time, to 10-1.       Ahimsa is the real deal.      She’s a medical doctor who has fought to protect the Bay View community for years.

Josh Wolf:     30-1

Dennis Kucinich was about Josh’s age when he was elected Mayor of Cleveland.       Josh is in that class.      Again, no major lefties enter and he’s immediately at 15-1.

‘Chicken John’ Rinaldi:      50-1

He told the New York times that he didn’t think that Newsom was doing a bad job.       He’s been quoted as saying he’d worry about ‘issues’ later.       That makes his candidacy a vanity run.      A welcome one, to be sure.        You don’t learn the issues of SF in 90 days.     His odds stay at 50-1 no matter who enters.

‘Diamond Dave’ Whitaker:     50-1

While Sumchai-Porter is my favored declared candidate, Diamond Dave is my favorite.        He’s tens of thousands of people’s favorite too.        He’s flashed his beacon upon every major City issue over the last 40 plus years from his perch in the KPOO studios and at the Brainwash poetry readings.       Like Hall, he’s completely transparent.       Were I to bet a long shot in this run, it would be Dave.     All he has to do is get his canoe into the water, watch a Newsom train-wreck and he’s got a chance.       I only list Rinaldi before him because I’m assuming ‘Chicken John’ has got more scratch.

h. brown:     100-1

I’m the best candidate by far no matter who enters the race.      My knowledge of the City’s departments and issues, the Neocon hierarchy and simple raw intelligence easily put me at the head of any field.       Problem is, I can be a real jack-off.       I’m a notorious drunk and womanizer and I’ve fucked more wives than Gavin can count.      Other people have skeletons in their closets; I have a virtual graveyard.   I’m in there to expose the total failure of the Newsom administration and his Downtown handlers  just as I’ve done for the past decade.

I have a much better chance of being hit by lightning than I do of becoming Mayor.       I’d even wager that if all of the other candidates were killed in a plane crash before election day, that half of them would still out-poll me from their graves.

On that note.

Salon 1-3pm.
