Watching City Hall #474
Watching Krissy run for Kongress XVI
(9-7-06)
“I’m the only white person in my family.”
(my welcome to ‘Enemy Combatant Radio’)
Krissy has 40 house parties scheduled. Campaigns are fun. She was on Mesha Monge’s Indy Radio show friday. I went along with Susan King to kibbitz and watch Krissy and a Mexican-American trannie political activist named Aurora who is brilliant, talk about poverty and justice. Aurora talked about her life growing up in a small Mexican village that was referred to as: “a little slice of Heaven” … about being driven north by economics and about her 3 children created when she identified as a straight male and chuckled good naturedly about how her wife had divorced her because she: “wanted a real man” (Aurora is now a striking female). I told her I was retiring and could I live in her hometown ‘Heaven’ on $500 a month? Campaigns are fun. She got into a rap about land use that would have done Henry George proud:
“Problem is the price of land. If we can keep that static,
people living on the land and their businesses and
institutions can flourish.”
Land trusts? A radio show you can say ‘fuck’ on? Campaigns are fun. We came to Mesha’s show from the Bulldog Salon and came to the Salon (just a bunch of alternative media writers) came there from Josh Wolf’s press conference celebrating his release, however temporary, from prison, … and Josh talked about the importance of the legitimacy of the ‘citizen journalist’, who would be - unprotected under Alberto Gonzales’ new ‘Josh Wolf Rule’ - defines legal ‘journalist’ as someone paid to write - means I’m not a ‘journalist’ for one and that all those dirty pictures and facts I have about you can be grabbed by the federal government … I spotted Dan Noyes’ producer, a fox named ‘Beth’ and introduced her to Krissy because Krissy is bigger news every day and Beth and Noyes are producing the best local TV reporting in the Bay area now. I passed a couple of Krissy’s mini-poster/business cards to Beth and Sue Vaughan, one of Krissy’s generals, leaped and grabbed the cards out of the woman’s hands and started her own pitch and so I looked around for something to hit her with but there was Michael Strickland and he was taking photos and the dude from the Haightashburybeat.com was across the way taking notes about me while I was taking notes about him and I couldn’t find anything to hit Vaughan with so I just gave her a dirty look. … Campaigns are fun.
Should I do a radio show?
I’m hot for it. Wait a minute, though. I’m watching Andy Ross as the odd man out on Rachel Gordon’s, ‘City Desk’ on Comcast. He’s pitiful, but tonight he is surrounded by women and that’s always a good thing.
New, hottest-lady-in-town, Cecilia Vega created a simple, preppy base of a watermelon colored, cashmere V neck sweater over a black polo shirt and a narrow stone, pearl-stranded necklace to focus your attention on her amazing Grecian features (tune in folks, she’s getting older as we speak) … and it makes you hate the set designer who has all these interesting faces to work with (even Barbara Taylor’s) and the only face he frames is Andy Ross against a gray wall?
So, I was glad that Rachel had an ‘almost’ all female news show (could have used Carol Harvey to complete the sweep)
“One of her eyes is higher than the other.”
(a Salonite critiques Vega)
Hey, Cecilia, don’t take this too personally. Most of my Salon is made up of gay men in their very zenith physically and celebrating same and … they aren’t above a backhand to provoke a response. It’s September 9th now and you’re reading notes for a novel, so don’t expect lots of continuity. My complete focus now is on Krissy Keefer for Congress and despite the urgency of other items (like Josh Wolf’s defense of all alternative journalists such as myself) … despite the other stories, I’ll always come back to the fact that we can create the biggest upset in Congressional history by sending Krissy as our SF representative to the next U. S. congress.
So, anyway, I’m pitching Vega and how much better she is intellectually than everyone else on the City Desk panel with the exception of Rachel Gordan who inexplicably goes out of her way to pretend that there is a serious challenge to Chris Daly in District 6. Unbelievable that the seasoned Gordan would say that D-6 was the only serious contest when D-4 is an open seat in play between two serious APA candidates with over a hundred grand each in their war chests?
Josh Wolf represents me
I know more about current local politics than the entire panel on Comcast #11’s put together. That’s a simple fact. Another fact is that, as Josh said in his press conference last Friday, a week ago, was that the scariest thing about the definition of a ‘journalist’ presently included in a Federal ’shield’ law shuts out everyone who doesn’t get paid to write?
That means a dip shit like Andy Ross is a true journalist and I’m not? That means that Marc Salomon’s notes can be seized because he doesn’t get a check from fundamentalist Christian/Evangelical media baron, Philip Anshultz while a dickhead like Ken Garcia has his files (full of payoffs from da ‘Swells’) protected?
And, … that definition of a journalist is supposed to be an improvement? It still allows them to imprison Josh Wolf for refusing to give them his raw notes. Me too (but, they can have my ‘raw’ notes anytime they want if they’ll organize and publish them for me - c’mon Alberto, I’ll give you 50% of royalties on my work on your local Homeland Security Unit) … lots of you reading this too.
Yeah, this is an attack upon bloggers everywhere. Look at local shithead agencies like the SFPD. They’ve worked with the Feds to dump over half of the local press passes. If you don’t have a ‘legitimate’ press pass, your work can be considered the insane ramblings of a terrorist and subject to confiscation by the federal government.
Oh yeah, the list I put together to have a fundraiser for Josh a couple of weeks ago? They can have that list and all my notes included if they can prove that I don’t get money for writing. … Is that shit, sick? First, they fire all the reporters possible, then they expose all of their research simply because they were fired because only government supported writers have work and only the work of government supported writers is protected. I mean, c’mon, like a fossil like Marshall Kilduff needs his files protected but an anarchist like Josh Wolf or a muckraker like me don’t? Crazy shit.
Let’s get some news out
(9-18-06)
I owe you all. I’ve been getting into places for free and getting free booze and food because people know that you read me. Then, I’ve been just gathering notes and not putting anything up for you to read. Let me give you coverage of the events I’ve covered since I last published. There won’t be a particular order her. Just as, there is none in my mind. As Rick Knee wrote this morning: “There will be a meeting of the ‘Time Travelers’ group 3 months ago and I’m sure we had a good time.” Or, something like that. Face it, things have been going fast and it’s hard to keep up.l
1. Murphy/Nayman shut down Sentinel and rip-off Luke Thomas
This story is actually connected to the second and third and fourth stories. Kernel of this is that Nate Nayman is a bagman for Walter Shorenstein and, together with PR schmoozer, David Latterman, manuevered to dump Luke Thomas from his half-ownership in the Sentinel to the drink because Luke was being too fair in his coverage of Chris Daly. Also, Krissy Keefer.
Instead of simply buying Luke out, the Shorenstein/Fisher dildos simply changed all the access codes to the Sentinel (to which Thomas bought half ownership - including all management decisions - almost 2 years back) … Latterman relayed the Shorenstein message clearly: “We don’t owe you anything for your half of the Sentinel because there is no Sentinel!”.
Nayman, Shorenstein, Latterman and Fisher. Where do these people get the idea that it’s OK to steal someone’s possessions without payment? What makes these people special? Don’t they understand that actions like this could create resentment?
One of my readers keeps suggesting that Luke take Murphy and Nayman and Latterman to Small Claims Court and ask for the max of $5k. Is it not amazing that Shorenstein’s lackies don’t even consider a settlement? Remind you of anything? I remember Fisher and his attack upon Gerardo Sandoval.
Yeah, Fisher was assured that the judges were rigged and that he could call Sandoval anything in the world and the judges would bill Gerardo for their hours. Did, too. I remember another case too.
Remember when Walter Shorenstein burned that Filipino veteran to death in the ‘I’ Hotel 30 years back? Yeah, he hired a firm who hired the arsonist, then with the smoldering body on TV, Walter transferred ownership to some SouthEast Asian outfit called ‘Mandalay’ who finished emptying the building.
Walter has patience. He kicked the ‘I Hotel’ property around for years just as he’s refused to clean up his Tenderloin properties. If he can keep the neighborhood ‘blighted’, he can get tax write-offs from the Redevelopment’s Marcia Rosen who just loves to write checks to billionaires. Funny, isn’t it? I mean, how Walter keeps fucking over Filipino’s? His latest was his years of trying to strangle the Bindelstiff theatre. Has this mother-fucker no shame? I think not. However, you can see him in his monkey suit weekly in the Chronicle’s ‘Swells’ photos. Paying Gavin Newsom’s way through college was a good move for Walter too. Hey, I shit you not. Walter funded Gavin’s scholarship, then pulled the string it automatically attached to Gavin’s penis when he wanted to kill the C3 parking legislation the entire City and every one of it’s department’s agreed on planning rules. That was ugly. Thug tactics. Only covered by a single reporter. Guess who? Luke Thomas. Caught em forging letters and all kinds of shit like that and printed it. Lucky Shorenstein didn’t have him killed.
2. & 3. Bay Guardian and BayView newspaper online sites hacked relentlessly since last election. You can’t trace the hackers. They’re very sophisticated. Only thing we know for sure is that they don’t attack the Chron or Examiner sites. Clearly, the feds have a full-court press going to shut down alternative media outlets.
4. Josh Wolf imprisoned, released, threatened with re-imprisonment. Direct attack upon all information the unpaid radical media has gathered. All of it. All of it. All of my emails with each of you to give you an idea of what the Feds want access too. All of it.
5. Shutting down ‘Enemy Combatant Radio’. Same day as they shut down the Sentinel and shut Luke Thomas out. Odd that the week before, ECR producers David Grace and Fernando Whatshisname had allowed Mesha Monge-Irizarry to interview Krissy Keefer and myself regarding Krissy’s campaign for Kongress against ‘Nip and tuck Pelosi’. That’s a union owned building, right? Could shutting down ECR have anything to do with Robert Haaland’s support for Nancy Pelosi? When the unions kill for the plutocrats, we have a problem in River City.
So, there’s been a campaign against alternative media. It has stepped up. With 50 days remaining til election day, they don’t want you to learn anything that you don’t get from the Chron or the Ex or from Comcast. Only in San Francisco could this incredible campaign fail.
And it will. Because, this campaign is fun and all the dipshit crap that Latterman and Nayman can put together only makes it more fun. I mean, you need a degree of difficulty. We’re still waiting for a million bucks in Pelosi billboards and mailings (she normally charges the taxpayer for all of her political mailers) … that will come later. Right now, they’re trying to kill off every alternative transmitter and videographer and blogger they can reach. Doesn’t matter.
Keefer will beat Pelosi. She’ll win because our boycott of the Downtown Media in the final month of the campaign will negate their attacks on our media outlets and we have lots and lots and lots more ways to reach our voters. The biggest casualty of this campaign will be the Chronicle. They’ve attacked the truth and their own employees from editors down to delivery personnel visciously these last 3 years and they are going to pay for it. Forget the 200 million or so they are already losing yearly thanks to the Craig Newmark’s of the world. Our victory will be complete when the Chron voluntarily takes down their own website because people stopped buying their paper on the street and ordering it at home. Shit, if it’s free, why not save a tree?
much more gossip later,
