Watching City Hall #311, (9-05-04)

“George W. Bush walks like Hitler & Mussolini!”
(Eileen Left makes accurate observation)

I knew I’d seen that smirk and strut combined before. Hmmm. It’s a place to start, I guess. … Writing a speech for John Kerry, I mean.

I’ve been watching lots of West Wing when I get the chance and I’m starting to realize that imaginary characters can have more relevance than their physical counterparts. (Eileen agrees emphatically)

I particularly enjoy watching Jeb Barlett’s writers put together great speeches for him. I relate to that shit. Sooo, since John Kerry clearly needs a new direction if he’s to catch George II (didn’t the country start with a revolt against George II?) … Anyway, here’s me and Eileen’s speech for Kerry.

Moderator: “Senator Kerry, why do you think you’re better equipped to lead this country in a time of war and high unemployment?”

Kerry: “Sir, I want to take this opportunity to take the advice of many close advisers who have said that it is time to take off the gloves when dealing with the present occupant of the White House. So, I’m going to say a few things that everyone knows but has been too kind to mention.

George W. Bush is a coward who avoided service in Viet Nam by using his family’s influence to buy his way into the Texas Air National Guard. That makes him a draft dodger. While the yellow-bellied son of a Texas oil front man was escaping the draft, I was spending my first tour of duty in Viet Nam. While Bush evaded the front lines, I was seeking out the most dangerous assignments and facing the enemy on the field of battle.

George W. Bush is a deserter. Not content to avoid service in Viet Nam, this man who now sends thousands of young American boys to die in battle, deserted his own unit. He holds the distinction of being the only man in American history who is both a deserter and a war criminal. While young George was deserting, I was doing my second voluntary tour in Viet Nam.

George W. Bush is a cocaine addict and an alcoholic. Does this matter to you? His closest supporters are religious fanatics who dream of being swept away into the heavens in a ‘rapture’ that precedes the destruction of everyone else in a battle called ‘Armageddon’ that starts in the Middle East. They don’t care how it starts. The ranking Republican in the senate (Bill Frist) went to Israel and told their parliament that they shouldn’t give an inch to the Palestinians (a united Jerusalem is necessary for the rapture). … These people are insane!!

George Bush has alienated the most ardent American allies. He so insulted the Turks (only Moslem country on earth we can/could count on – and best situated, armed & motivated to same our Yankee bacon if things soured for the Bush Blitzkrieg) … screwed up relations with the Turks and the French and the Spanish and the Germans and on and on and on.

The Bush transfer of money and resources to the richest has created a situation in this country certain to lead to rebellion. He has opened forests, oceans and the tundra to exploitation and refused to sign treaties protecting the very atmosphere itself.

He is spending 100 billion dollars on a missile defense shield that has been proven not to work. That’s enough money to build a home for every homeless person in America.

When the U.S. military captures Osama bin Laden, they won’t have to introduce him to Bush. Hell, their families are old friends! When the de facto Saudi Air Force attacked the World Trade Center, the Texas oil man immediately sent planes to fly the rest of the family back home. Ironic isn’t it that the only people flying around American that day were all Saudis? The picture of George Bush standing with his arm around the shoulder of a firefighter at Ground Zero ranks as one of the most hypocritical events in world history. Here was this Texas oil man, great friend of the Saudis who financed this butchery … their business partner all over the world … here’s this bastard acting like he had nothing to do with this attack. Face it. We got attacked because Saudi fundamentalists don’t want us in their country. And, the reason we don’t leave is because people like George Bush make a bundle from ripping off Arab oil.

Bush has done more to destroy the constitutional rights to privacy and free speech than any president in history. He arrests and detains people in secret. He has declared war upon those whose sexual orientation does not match his own. … And, he walks and smirks like Hitler. And, every bit of this is the absolute truth.”

Moderator: “I’m sorry, but the Department of Homeland Security has blocked transmission of your reply to my question. If you’ll just go quietly with these men, I’m sure you’ll be free in 30 years or so.”

Happy Labor Day!
