Every morning
      as I lie in bed

Jack wakes me up
      by licking my head
Annoying you may think,
      but instead
I await this alarm clock
      with relish, not dread
For it’s love and affection
      that greet me each day
So I patiently submit
      while he licks away
Because one of these days
      little Jack will be dead

And I’ll cry for the days
      when he licked my head
